Food allergies can create chaos in the body’s digestive system by reacting to harmless foods as if they are dangerous bacteria or viruses. This could result in anything from an annoying rash to a more life-threatening condition. Although children often suffer from food allergies more often, they can also often outgrow them as they age. Many adults, however, still have food allergies from their childhood, or they can develop them later in life. Commonly, food allergies revolve around milk, eggs, nuts, fish, soy and wheat. Fish and nuts are often the most serious, since trace amounts can cause major problems, but any food allergy can be harmful and destructive. If you believe you have a food allergy, it is important to get tested! We are happy to offer Food Allergy & Sensitivity Testing as one of the services we provide at Creative Healing Solutions. Knowing what your body is allergic &/or sensitive to will help you make better food decisions and avoid possible medical issues in the future. Dr. Strand and our natural health team can assist you in identifying if you have a potential issue with food allergies/sensitivities, and which tests to order. If you believe you have issues with certain foods, it is important to understand the difference between true food allergies and food sensitivities. True food allergies are mediated through the IgE portion of your immune system, which makes them an immediate immune/allergic response. Food Sensitivities are mediated through the IgG portion of your immune system, which makes them a delayed hypersensitivity response. Both reactions to food can cause significant symptoms in your body, so it is often vital to determine which foods are offensive to your body so you can eliminate them in order to allow your digestive tract, immune system, and body to heal! We will ask you about your family’s history with food allergies, if you have any known and proven allergies, and about your general allergy history. We will also ask you questions about any of the experiences you have had after eating certain foods. This includes skin symptoms, digestive symptoms, respiratory symptoms, energy issues, pain, etc.
Some common ways of determining if you do indeed have food allergies are: Elimination diet If you are attempting to find which food is causing your reactions, you may need to eliminate suspected foods for a period of time to see if your symptoms change. Skin prick test An allergist will place a tiny amount of the food on your skin and prick your skin so that a small amount can enter beneath the skin’s surface. If you develop a bump there, an allergy is present. Blood test Blood tests directly identify if there are IgE, IgG, or IgA antibodies in your blood, which are substances your immune system creates when you are exposed to an allergy-causing element. A small blood draw will occur and be sent out to a functional lab to be tested.
At Creative Healing Solutions, we use a few different functional tests that can identify specific food allergies/sensitivities: Immuno BloodPrint from ImmunoLabs – This food sensitivity test will test you for reactions to 154 common foods, making it a highly detailed test for detecting the body’s reaction to various food items and meals.
